The use of 3D printers in mathematics education
Rohelová, Jitka ; Jančařík, Antonín (advisor) ; Janda, David (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to design, implement, and evaluate an educational model that integrates 3D printing into the teaching process, linking computer science and mathematics education with the goal of increasing student engagement and understanding. Furthermore, it explores the challenges associated with the use of 3D printing and 3D printers in mathematics teaching and subsequently proposes recommendations and creates materials that would allow the effective use of this technology in mathematics education. The collected data was analyzed using both quantitative and qualitative methods. The educational model was designed around the topic of stereometry and was implemented through an educational experiment involving 5 classes of a vocational high school. The conclusions drawn from the data analysis are consistent with theoretical assumptions about increased motivation and success of students when using 3D printers in education. A meeting was organized for teachers to share best practices on the topic of using 3D printing and 3D printers in mathematics teaching. Following group discussions with teachers, challenges faced by teachers (or schools) when integrating 3D printing into their curriculum were identified and described in two separate chapters. Additionally, a set of 3D models of...
Inquiry based mathematics education: case of fractions
Podhajská, Kristýna ; Tichá, Marie (advisor) ; Novotná, Jarmila (referee)
The theoretical part deals with approaches to teaching, especially constructivistic, instructivistic and transmissive approach. The goal of this part is to compare the approaches and evaluate them considering the permanency of knowledge and active engagement of students. Simultaneously it aims at evaluating the approaches from the point of their of the mechanical knowledge. The charter dealing with inquiry based mathematics education is focused on teaching related to constructivistic approach. The next chapter describes tool called concept cartoons, which can be used as a mean to research. The theoretical part is focused on the topic of fraction, especially fraction interpretation and models and fraction representation. The second part of the thesis describes a survey realized at basic school. I narrowed the problem to fraction interpretation and representation according to survey of student's work. The next part of research is based on this analysis. Trying to accomplish the aims and find the answers to questions of the survey I chose strategy inspired by action research, because the main goal of the research was to improve and enhance my teaching knowledge and skills. The survey was processed qualitatively. The making of the thesis helped me make it clear, why the topic of fractions is so...
Financial literacy and its inclusion in the curriculum of practical primary schools
Löffelmannová, Anna ; Kloboučková, Jaroslava (advisor) ; Tůmová, Veronika (referee)
The theoretical part of the diploma work defines intellectual disabilities, as well as the possibilities of counselling and educating of pupils with mental disabilities. Further, the thesis discusses education and re-education of pupils with diagnosed mental retardation. It outlines the inclusion of financial literacy into the curricular documents intended for pupils with a mental disability across educational areas with emphasis on mathematics. The thesis introduces materials and their parameters suitable for the inclusion of financial literacy at practical primary schools. The practical part covers experimental education of individual thematic topics of financial literacy at practical primary schools. The carried out initial diagnostics of pupils at a selected practical primary school focused on percentages, simple interest and a family budget. This diagnostics had a general character, as was also verified. Furthermore, the thesis presents a detailed record from own executed teaching with regard to four monitored pupils, including their casuistry. After the completion of the teaching, its success was assessed. The work can be used not only by teachers at practical primary schools but also at ordinary primary schools, because it contains a series of graded tasks that lead to the development of...

TITLE: Pupils with specific learning disabilities and mathematics education in the second grade of primary school AUTHOR: Bc. Anna Dvořáková DEPARTMENT: Department of Special Education SUPERVISOR: Mgr. Lenka Felcmanová ABSTRACT: The bachelor thesis deals with problems of mathematics education for pupils with specific learning disabilities in the second grade of primary school. Pupils with specific learning disabilities need special education support in mathematics lessons. Mathematics teachers should offer them this support. The level of mathematics education for pupils with specific learning disabilities is dependent on the level of knowledge, skills and the experiences of teachers and on the readiness of a school in dealing with pupils with specific learning disabilities. The theoretical part described problems like the deficits of partial functions, dyscalculia, and pupils with dyscalculia in mathematics lessons. It provides the needed academic foundation for the actual research. The field studies show the results of the qualitative methods of research of the readiness of mathematics teachers and schools in dealing with pupils with specific learning disabilities. It focuses on the needs of pupils and the possibilities for special education support. The thesis evaluates the current situation and...

Růžičková, Lucie ; Kopáčková, Alena (advisor) ; Harminc, Matúš (referee) ; Tichá, Marie (referee)
Title: Implementation of Challenging Tasks in Mathematics Education Author: PhDr. Lucie Růžičková Department: Department of Mathematics and Mathematics Education Supervisor: RNDr. Alena Kopáčková, Ph.D. ABSTRACT The thesis deals with practical implementation of challenging tasks in mathematics education. The methodology for examining "the fidelity of implementation of mathematical tasks" is being designed to describe whether the task is used according to the original intention of the teacher or according to the intention of its author. This methodology is employed in the analysis of four experiments to examine mathematical tasks and task environments. Then, based on the experience with the analysis, the methodology is adapted to the needs of both the teaching practice and educational research. The main result of the thesis is the creation of the methodology for examining the fidelity of implementation of mathematical tasks which is based on contrasting the descriptions of four general elements of the mathematical task at different phases of its implementation. KEY WORDS: mathematics education, mathematical task, challenging task, implementation of tasks
Introduction to variables in the teaching of teachers using the method of building schemes in mathematics
Smutná, Anežka ; Vondrová, Naďa (advisor) ; Kvasz, Ladislav (referee)
This thesis deals with an introduction to variables. The aim of the thesis was to compare different approaches to teaching the introduction to variables in teachers who teach a method based on building schemes (known as Hejny method). The theoretical part of the thesis is a search of literature on the topic of introduction to variables and the theoretical background of teaching methods based on building schemes. Further, the thesis analyses textbooks designed for this method with a focus on tasks important for the propaedeutics of the variables. The research itself consisted of interviews with four teachers and observations of the lessons they taught in the 7th and 8th grades of secondary school, the topic of which was an introduction to the "language of letters". In total, there were fifteen lessons taught by these teachers in six classes (2-3 lessons in each class). Data were analyzed by qualitative methods. Although the observed teachers taught using the same method, I identified differences in the approach to the introduction of the variables and in the style of their teaching. There were differences in the organization of the lesson, in the selection of tasks and their style of assignments to pupils, teaching methods and ways in which teachers communicate with pupils. At the moment of entering the...
Structural Mathematics in High School
Beran, Filip ; Kvasz, Ladislav (advisor) ; Boček, Leo (referee)
What exactly can we understand by "structural mathematics"? Mathematical structures was a concept which dominated images of mathematics of the twentieth century. It was followed by an effort to transpose the work of Nicolas Bourbaki and his contemporaries into high school education. Progress and results of so-called "modernization of school mathematics" were often received with criticism and hesitation. Using didactical-mathematical concepts of constructivism, languages of mathematics and their various representations and instrumental realism we analyze the principal reasons of that failure. Concurrently we show how it is possible to revive its teaching by broader conception of "structuring" in mathematics. So from mathematical structures we gradually pass to structural mathematics.
